Worship at WPC
With any congregation of our size, there are many different events in the life of the church going on every day. But no matter what other activities are going on, communal worship, together as the people of God, is the primary focus of our congregational life, around which everything else radiates.
Together, as the entire worshiping community, we give thanks to God the the grace, mercy, and love that we've received from God. We listen to and focus on the scriptures, and hear thoughtful sermons that inspire, comfort, and challenge as they proclaim God's good news found in the day's scripture readings. Our spirits are uplifted by wonderful vocal and instrumental music, all further offering glory to God and proclaiming God's goodness and love.
As its name suggests, Communion, or the Lord's Supper, is served every Sunday in the earlier service. The Lord's Supper is celebrated in the Main Service on the first Sunday of every month, and other special days in the church calendar. In both services, either wine or unfermented grape juice is always available. The bread used may vary, being any kind of bread normally eaten by the community. Gluten-free bread is always available for those needing it.
In the Main Service, the bread and cup are usually distributed to people via trays while they remain seated in the pews, symbolic of the servant nature of the church leadership, who distributes these elements. On occasion, in either the Communion or the Main Service, Communion is served via Intinction - with the worshipers leaving their seats and coming forward to receive the bread and dip the bread in a common cup of wine or juice.
