Wedding

By Session directive, Worthington Presbyterian Church schedules weddings for members of the Church. It is expected that at least one of the couple to be married has been an active member of the congregation for at least six (6) months before a wedding may be scheduled. (Consistent attendance and stewardship constitute active membership.) Special consideration may be given to a person whose parents are members, if that person has grown up in another church and was living elsewhere when the parents joined our church.

Non-members may submit their wedding request to our wedding assistant Jan Elliott in writing or by e-mail for review by the pastoral staff. If approved, there is a $2,000.00 fee for church usage, which includes customary honoraria and fees. Couples wishing to marry should call the church office to check availability of the sanctuary. They will meet with Jan Elliott, our wedding assistant, to discuss policies and procedures. One of our clergy will officiate at the wedding and they are assigned on an availability basis with an eye toward fair representation for each.

Our organist or music director is in charge of all music and a meeting with them is required, though outside musicians are welcomed with prior approval. A wedding coordinator (Diane Cowgill, Lou Flocken or Kara Hauerwas) is assigned to each wedding. Premarital counseling classes are required by the church and are offered in groups several months before the wedding.
