Theme for Lent 2019: Temptations Along the Way
The season of Lent is based on the number of days Jesus endured temptation in the wilderness.
Through special services, a sermon series and a Lenten Bible study, we will prepare for
Holy Week and Easter by examining temptations in our lives.
Ash Wednesday Services
On March 6th, begin the season of Lent with worship! Both services include imposition of ashes.
- 12 noon in the Chapel: Brief lunch-hour service with a sermon by Rev. Wayne Morrison and music by Melissa Robol
- 7 p.m. in Sanctuary: A contemplative service of music, scripture, prayer and silence. The special music will include piano, guitar, and WPC youth will be doing the readings.
Lent is a time to take stock of our faithfulness, to take a careful look at the stumbling blocks in our way. Dr. Julia Wharff Piermont will deliver a five-part series to reflect on the “devils” that tempt us, how to notice them, and how to encourage one another to withstand them confidently, as Jesus did. This series is a companion to the Bible study described below.
Temptation in the Desert Lenten Bible Study
We face in our lives the urges and temptations that were real to Jesus in his time of temptation. This study, written by Princeton Seminary president (and renowned preacher), the Rev. Dr. M. Craig Barnes, explores these temptations and the resources of faith that help us withstand them. Led by Dr. Tom Rice. Sundays at 9 a.m. (3/10-4/14) and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. (3/13-4/17). Room 222 (next to Chapel). Breakfast and child care are provided at 10 a.m., and childcare is available at 7 p.m. upon request. Come grow in Lent! Learn more and signup here.
